Shareholder Karen L. Long will provide an overview of the current accommodations required for transgender students and employees, including practical tips on the current best practices for school administrators.

10:00 – 11:00  When Schools and OSSAA Collide

Shareholder J. Douglas Mann will report on the current OSSAA policy related to transgender student participation in school sports, including potential legal hurdles and possible protections for the district and its athletic program.

11:00 – 11:15  Break

11:15 – 12:00  Special Services for Transgender Youth

Shareholder K. Bo Rainey will guide administrators through the complexities of the IEP and Section 504 process in conjunction with transgender students – including how to appropriately identify whether an accommodation is a special education matter.

12:00 – 12:30  Policy Pros and Cons

Paralegal Michelle D. Siegfried will outline the pros and cons of having a specific policy for transgender individuals, including key components and considerations to guide the district’s discussion.
