Special Education

Rosenstein, Fist & Ringold represents public school districts, private schools, career technology centers, a college and other education�'related entities in the State of Oklahoma in the complex area of special education.  These attorneys are able to provide assistance with all aspects of special education law, including but not limited to:

  • Advising schools in all aspects of special education, under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act and state policies and procedures;

  • Representing schools in due process hearings through the administrative process and in state and federal court;

  • Developing policies governing school responsibilities for children with disabilities;

  • Training personnel to understand and implement their legal responsibilities and design appropriate programs and services for children with disabilities;

  • Reviewing confidential folders and other student education records to help schools identify areas of strength and deficiency and staff training needs;

  • Participating in multidisciplinary, Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Section 504 Title II team meetings;

  • Assisting schools with the development of appropriate documentation;

  • Representing schools who are the subject of complaints filed with the State Department of Education and the Office for Civil Rights;

  • Advocating for schools on a state and national level to address legislative issues;

  • Addressing deficient performance by special educators, including the preparation of plans for improvement and admonishments, and representing schools in termination proceedings; and

  • Representing special education cooperatives and interlocals.
